Caresoft has begun its benchmarking teardown of the Tesla Cybertruck and invited Autoline in to see the first stages of the process. Terry Woychowski, the president of the company, points out some of the highlights of the 4-wheel steer-by-wire system, the 48 volt connectors, the battery pack, the gigacastings and other castings that are used through the vehicle.
Steve says
It’s odd that all the castings have that gold-colored coating, except for the crossmember that carries the rear suspension and steering. Why isn’t it coated? It’s more susceptible to corrosion than the others. I can just see dirt, salt, etc., getting trapped in the webbing.
Also, it’s interesting that they use so many castings, but the front crossmember and rear control arms look like welded steel stampings. Why not use an aluminum casting for the front crossmember, and forged aluminum rear control arms?
