Self-tinting or smart glass features a thin layer of nanoparticles sandwiched between two panes of glass. When an electrical charge is applied or removed from the nanoparticle layer, the particles either line up to let light through or scatter to block it out. We first experienced this several years ago in Maybach version of the previous generation of Mercedes S-Class and it worked really well. Today, as Joe Harary, President and CEO of Research Frontiers, maker of smart glass, tell us it’s technology will not only help extend the range of the upcoming all-electric, hand-built Cadillac Celestiq sedan, but that it also has a number of other uses as well.
